Enhance Understanding of Your Cause with Rubber Wristbands

By Sarah Greydon

Rubber wristbands are THE hot pop culture fad - of 2004. Its popularity soared because of the yellow "Livestrong" band was introduced in that year. Since then their appeal has chilled a bit. But what many people don't realize is that the simple little wristbands continue to be an effective fundraising and also consciousness-raising tool for many educational institutions, nonprofits and social causes around the world.

The trick to the success of the rubber wrist bands is that they can raise funds easily because they can be resold at a price low enough that almost anyone who wants one can afford to pay for it. Yet, they maintain a high enough per-unit profit margin as they are inexpensive to purchase and can be ordered at a low cost.

Lance Armstrong, a professional cyclist's introduction with Nike of the yellow "Livestrong" wristband to raise funds for cancer research and to increase awareness about cancer started the rubber wristband craze six years ago. Armstrong, who has won the Tour de France seven times, successfully battled cancer several years earlier and became a spokesperson for cancer research. The rubber wristbands became an instant sensation. First among Armstrong's fellow cyclists, then other professional athletes, then the public at large.

Many other groups tried to reproduce this achievement by instantly introducing their own awareness rubber wristbands in different colors to represent their own causes. Breast cancer organizations, for example, sold pink rubber wristbands, and AIDS awareness groups sold red ones.

But as the rubber wristbands spread, the available wristband colors turned out to be inadequate when compared to all the worthy causes in the world. The answer was that most colors now represent more than a single cause. So, you have to question the individual wearing it, what a particular wristband represents to learn for sure.

Lately, the recognition of rubber wristbands has certainly dropped a bit. Nonetheless they can still be a potent marketing tool, as found by many educational institutions, charitable groups as well as corporations.

For school fundraising, rubber wristbands are hard to beat. They can be sold at a price low enough that just about any student who wants one can have it. They help boost school spirit among students, faculty and staff. And they are fun to wear.

Businesses can use rubber wrist bands to promote new products or services, giving them away by the hundreds to build brand awareness and recognition. Or they can embrace a social cause that their business supports and use the rubber wristbands as a way to demonstrate that support to the community.

Rubber wristbands also have struck a responsive chord with bands seeking to improve their publicity. Wristbands imprinted with the band's name and/or logo can be marketed as gifts, issued as a special reward for fan club members, or even chucked from the stage into the crowd at concerts.

Fads come and go, but the wristbands remain a great tool for fundraising, awareness movements, promotional and marketing purposes. If you want to make a statement rubber wristbands are the way to go. They are affordable and allow you to customize your statement in your preferred colors and style. Rubber wristbands are a great promotional tool even today and are not just a thing of the past.
